My Year in Review

What a truly phenomenal year. It started out with an unexpected invite to run a 100 miler in India and ended with The North Face 50 miler Championships in California. More importantly, 2015 marks my 11 straight year without a major running injury, my 37th ultra marathon finish of my career and several other major accomplishments in my life.

Featured in Endurance News, my 100 miler story in India

I was fortunate enough to get to go to India for the Run the Rann 100 miler. The race was a lot of fun and pain (thorns!) and I finished in 2nd place. I spent 3 weeks after the race adventuring in India and the Himalayas. You can read my blog about it here.

I raced a few fast road half-marathons in the spring and didn’t race next till The North Face 50 miler in Utah. I had a really rough race and finished 4th but bounced back quickly to train for my next race.

Next, I chose to run the US National Trail Marathon Championships in Moab again this year and had a lot of fun. I had a good race there and it ended up being good prep for my final race of the year, TNF 50 miler Championships.

I went into my final race very fit but pretty tired from a long year of racing and playing. I was curious to see how the race would go. As the race unfolded, I felt surprisingly good but didn’t have the mental fortitude to push it to go quite as fast as I wanted. I still ran a very good race in 7:25 for 31st in a super competitive field.

Besides racing, I had a successful year of coaching several athletes to PR’s from 5k to 100 mile distances. I really love helping runners get results whether that means overcoming injuries or accomplishing their goals. Helping others brings me great joy and I’m really fortunate that I get to work with such dedicated and hard working people I call friends.

Finally, I had two other standout accomplishments of my life. The first was getting named to the prestigious list of Great Vegan Athletes. I join a list that includes Olympian Carl Lewis and ultra superstar Scott Jurek. I also got to publish an article in UltraRunning magazine which I am very happy about.

A big thanks to my sponsors, Hammer Nutrition, Altra shoes, MacroLife Naturals and Correct Toes. Also, I couldn’t do what I love without my family and friends. I look forward to 2016 and another year of adventures.
